When should I start saving for a pension? Print E-mail

Ideally, you want to be saving as soon as you can.

The earlier you start the better. Someone who starts saving at the age of 25 would probably be better off than someone starting at the age of 35 assuming similar income paths. The person starting at 35 would have to make much higher contributions to match the saving of the individual who started at 25.

Although it is important to start early, for those later starters, it is important to note that is never too late to start contributing to a pension.

Of course in the end, how comfortable your retirement is depends not only on how much you put in, but also how well your specific fund performs.

But remember..

ITS NEVER TOO LATE!

Even though ideally you want to start contributing towards your pension fund as early as you can, starting late is of course better than not starting at all.

Too see the advantages of starting early, check out our pension calculator, which can give you an indication of how much you need to save each month to acheive the lifestyle you want in retirement.
